THE AMERICAN FUTBOL ACADEMY AND ST. LOUIS COUGARS JOIN FORCES ST. PETERS, Mo. (August,8 2008) - The American Futbol Academy (AFA) and the St. Louis Cougars Soccer Club (SLCSC) have agreed to a merger. Under the alliance, announced today, the AFA and the SLCSC will exist as The American Futbol Academy and the Cougar will continue on as the mascot of the AFA. “We are excited to blend our two philosophies of play and build on more than 40-years of tradition,” stated Joe Weber, Board Member of the AFA. “With the combined coaching expertise of Michael Slivinski and Dan “Dipper” King, along with their respective staffs, The American Futbol Academy will be an exciting and explosive club to watch.” “We look forward to the future and building our training and player development on the rich background of collegiate and professional athletes that have played and helped guide our club to over ten Missouri State Cup Championships and one National Championship,” commented Dan King, Vice President of SLCSC. The unification of The AFA, a co-educational training and developmental center based at the Omni Sportsplex, and the SLCSC, a youth soccer powerhouse around Greater St. Louis since 1969 and the training ground for numerous future collegiate, semipro and professional players, will raise the level of play, passion for the game and progression of training for players and coaches alike. “For The AFA, it’s all about attracting the right people, people of good character that are also capable and willing to improve each child’s desire to become the best soccer player he or she can be,” stated Michael Slivinski, Technical Director of the AFA. “With Dipper and Kevin Meyer, the AFA becomes a legitimate option for older players, too, as we now have expert staff experienced in assisting players get into college.” “With this merger, we look forward to the opportunity to help educate and develop a pedigree of players like Steve Pecher, Chris Kenny, Matt McKeon, and Dan King who have all worn the Cougar jersey in the past,” commented Jason Waller, President of SLCSC. “Given the quality of coaching encompassed by our two sides, we’re excited about the future of youth soccer as we elevate our focus to educating, developing, and training each player to love the game and realize their full potential,” said Weber.
