We have received a few questions/complaints about the SLYSA North fields. This article is intended to answer some of those questions and to communicate the purpose of the SLYSA North fields and give some direction on our future plans for them.
The primary complaint about the SLYSA North fields is that “they do not meet SLYSA complex standards”. Put simply…we agree. In the short term, however, the purpose of the SLYSA North fields is not to meet the quality of the SLYSA complex, but is instead, intended to help keep the quality of the SLYSA complex high.
The North fields will help keep the quality of the SLYSA complex fields high by 1) allowing us to occasionally rest a field at the complex when it begins to show wear, by 2) limiting the number of games per field allowing us to stay with a maximum of 12 games per week per small sided field and 9 games per week per full sided field at the complex and by 3) allowing us to play when the SLYSA complex fields are too wet.
The secondary complaint about the SLYSA North fields is that the teams that play on SLYSA North should not pay the same as those which play on the SLYSA fields because the North fields are not as high a quality as the fields at the complex. Again, we agree.
When we first decided to create SLYSA North, we knew that in the short term it would have to be park field quality and intended to charge accordingly. We don’t have reliable irrigation at the North fields nor the funds to create it. We knew that the annual cost to create and maintain the SLYSA North fields, would be less than the fields at the complex, but we did not know the specific costs. We now have that information and intend to pass the savings on.
So, FYI, at the end of the Fall season, teams which played games at the SLYSA North fields will receive a $20 per game credit against their Spring league fees.
As to the future, we do not know when or if the SLYSA North field quality will be raised to meet the standards of the complex fields. In the short term, we intend to invest any money we have for capital improvement in the SLYSA complex and will continue to use the SLYSA North fields as they were originally intended and set the fees accordingly. We will continue to try to improve the North fields as our budget allows.

Post edited by: admin, at: 2007/11/05 16:33
